Targeting highway drivers / gas pump guzzlers who rarely considered an alternative mode of transportation, Amtrak wanted to tout the often simple, overlooked perks of relaxing on the train through the Cascade mountains, versus navigating the journey by car. The route was virtually the same by rail as by road, minus some obvious headaches.
